VERBO There is / There are
El verbo THERE IS - THERE ARE es el verbo "HABER" y significa "HAY" y vamos a aprenderlo con las instituciones y negocios que hay en el barrio. Clickeando las palabras podés verlos.
Veamos algunos ejemplos:
"There is a kiosk en my neighbourhood" significa "Hay un kiosco en mi barrio"
"There are two schools in my neighbourhood" significa "Hay dos escuelas en mi barrio"
Entonces: there is se usa para decir que hay 1 (uno) y there are para decir que hay 2 (dos) o más.
Ahora vamos a ver los opuestos:
There is (hay) -------------> There isn´t (no hay)
There are (hay) --------------> There aren´t (no hay)
Veamos algunos ejemplos:
"There isn´t any hotel in my neighbourhood" significa "No hay ningún hotel en mi barrio"
"There aren´t three hospitals in my neighbourhood" significa "No hay tres hospitales en mi barrio"
Como podemos ver, si quiero decir que no hay ninguno voy a decir there isn´t any y para decir que no hay una cantidad determinada (como ser 3) voy a usar there aren´t.
